Ordering Process

Introduction
Thank you for visiting Defining Exposures. I hope you have enjoyed perusing the many wonderful moments I have been fortunate to experience and preserve. This page provides information on how to purchase an image as a fine art print. If you are interested in the commercial use of an image (book, editorial, advertising, calendar, etc.) please consult the Licensing Page. For more information regarding how the images and resulting prints are made please see the Process Page. Otherwise click below if you wish to skip ahead to a specific topic.

1. How to Order
To order a print, click the appropriate cell of the pricing grid on a particular image page to add it to your shopping cart. When you are finished shopping, click the Proceed to Checkout button from your shopping cart window.

Fine art prints belong to one of two collections: Open Edition and Limited Edition. Fine art prints from both collections are signed on the front, include certificates of authenticity, and come with a money back guarantee. While an unlimited number of Open Edition fine art prints may be sold, only 300 Limited Edition fine art prints, numbered sequentially, are available in each of three size categories 9x13.5 to 12x18, 16x24, 20x30 and larger.

2. Payment Methods
Preferred method of payment is by credit card or checking account transfer through PayPal. A PayPal account is not necessary to order with your credit card. They are simply our online merchant provider. In addition to automatically encrypting all sensitive information, PayPal employs numerous measures to protect buyers and sellers from fraud.

Of particular interest to buyers is that when you make a purchase through PayPal, the merchant (Defining Exposures) receives payment from PayPal without ever seeing your financial information. As a seller, PayPal enables us to focus on our core business of providing customers with the finest images possible. In particular, by utilizing PayPal we can outsource security and fraud protection to industry experts, initiate international, multiple currency transactions, and access tools that aid bookkeeping and expedite shipping.

Personal checks and money orders are also accepted but can delay your order because the bank must clear them before your order can be processed.

3. Money Back Guarantee
I have done my best to provide potential customers with accurate representations of my images on this website, as well as the ability to view image details in an enlarged view. However, inconsistencies in monitor settings (check yours here) and color gamut restrictions will inevitably result in some variation between the image you view on your computer and the actual fine print.

I am confident that you will be delighted with the viewing experience of the actual fine print. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your purchase, however, simply return it to us within 14 days. You can choose to exchange it for another title that we will ship free of charge or elect to have your original purchase refunded, less shipping and handling. Just be sure to insure any return in case of loss or damage during shipping.

4. Sizes Explaines

Photographic prints have traditionally been sold by paper size. However due to aspect ratios and borders, the image size often varies significantly from the stated paper size. For example a print of a 35mm image listed as 16x20 inches, traditional paper size, might have an image size of only 12x18 inches. To avoid this kind of confusion, I sell my prints based on actual standard image sizes, not paper size.

Depending on your display area and the visual impact you desire from an image, you can choose from several standard sizes: 9.5" x 13", 12" x 18", 16" x 24", 20" x 30", and 32" x 48". This is not to say that every image will conform to those exact dimensions. When cropped to an aspect ratio other than 1:1.5 for aesthetic reasons the image is printed up to the maximum length or width of a particular size. For example, a 16" x 24" print of Mount Robson Alpenglow is actually 16" x 20.8" due to the way I chose to crop the image. Likewise as an extreme example, a 16" x 24" print of Walton Lighthouse Wave is actually 10" x 24" due to the way I chose to crop the image.

5. Shipping

Because nearly all prints are individually made to order they are not available for immediate shipment. Orders are usually shipped within two weeks. Please contact me if you require faster service. Orders may also be delayed due to my travel schedule. However if this is the case I will be sure to notify you ahead of time.

All shipments are sent insured with delivery confirmation. Upon receiving your order please promptly inspect it for any damage that may have occurred during shipping. If the box is significantly damaged you may want to refuse delivery. Although damage during shipping is rare, if it occurs it needs to be reported to the shipper immediately for insurance purposes.
